Modifications to Improve the Fault Tolerance of the Extra Stage Cube Interconnection Network

چکیده
The Extra Stage Cube (ESC), a single-fault tolerant interconnection network, has been proposed for use in large-scale parallel and distributed computer systems. This paper shows how ESC fault tolerance can be improved by adopting a new reconfiguration policy. The new scheme requires only a small increase system hardware complexity; no logic need be added to the network. Also, a way to eliminate the hardcore of the originally proposed ESC by having two input and output ports on each device using the network is presented.

Tolerating Multiple Faults in Multistage Interconnection Networks with Minimal Extra Stages
ÐIn their 1982 paper, Adams and Siegel proposed an Extra Stage Cube Interconnection Network that tolerates one switch failure with one extra stage. We extend their results and discover a class of Extra Stage Interconnection Networks that tolerate multiple switch failures with a minimal number of extra stages. Adopting the same fault model as Adams and Siegel, the faulty switches can be bypassed...
متن کاملFault Side-Effects in Fault Tolerant
Many fault tolerant (FT) multistage interconnection networks have been devised that tolerate one or more faults. It is shown that the effects of some realistic faults can propagate through multiple stages and cause non-faulty components to behave erroneously; such faults with side effects can cause "FT" networks to lose their fault tolerance capabilities even due to a single fault. The PASM pro...
متن کاملExtra connectivity measures of 3-ary n-cubes
The h-extra connectivity is an important parameter to measure the reliability and fault tolerance ability of large interconnection networks. The k-ary ncube is an important interconnection network of parallel computing systems. The 1-restricted connectivity of k-ary n-cubes has been obtained by Chen et al. for k ≥ 4 in [6]. Nevertheless, the h-extra connectivity of 3-ary ncubes has not been obt...
متن کاملFault - Tolerance in Multi - Computer Networks
Multi-computers connected in various architectures are now commercially available and are being used for a variety of applications. Some of the most commonly used architectures are the binary hypercube, the binary tree, cube-connected cycles, the mesh, and multistage interconnection networks. All of these architectures have the major drawback that a single processor or edge failure may render t...
متن کاملFault Location in Distributed Control Interconnection Networks
One class of networks suitable for use in parallel processing systems is the multistage cube network. Unfortunately, the cube network is not fault tolerant and any single failure within the network can prevent some sourcedestination communications. Cube networks with "extra" stages can be constructed that permit faults to be bypassed — providing the exact location of the fault is known. This pa...
